Bed and Breakfast in Newcastle

Situated in the charming town of Newcastle, which is approximately half way between Johannesburg and Durban, you will find it the ideal stop over during a long journey. Offering more than just accommodation, Siyaphumula is well suited for both the business and leisure traveller. With Newcastle being situated along the Battlefields Route you will find a number of tourist attractions both in Newcastle and the surrounding area. Infrastructure in Newcastle is very good and you will find shopping and other amenities within easy reach, making your stay much more enjoyable. We also cater for group events, formal/ casual parties and conferences, etc. All bedrooms are en-suite with shower facilities except for a twin bed room it has a bath tub. Rooms are well equipped and tastefully decorated, with each having a bar fridge, air conditioner, television with satellite channels, hospitality tray for your early morning and evening tea or coffee and fresh towels daily. The environment at Siyaphumula is very peaceful and all the rooms are very neat and clean. Siyaphumula offers superb excellence in service and upholds high hospitality standards. Located approximately 32km from Newcastle, the reserve is a typical high-altitude forest, and is comprised mainly of steep yellowood gorges and grassland plateau habitats. A number of streams meets in the area to form the Ncandu River which is an ideal habitat for trout. Their are a quite a few scenic walking and horse trails which lead from the grassy plateaus past majestic stone cliffs, to a number of waterfalls. A large number of birdlife has been spotted in the area although no formal study has been conducted. Some of the birds that have been spotted are the Olive Woodpecker, Heuglin's Robin, Bush Blackcap, African Wood Owl, Bush Blackcap, as well as occasional sightings of the elusive Cape Parrot. Chelmsford Nature Reserve The Ntshingwayo Dam on the Ngagane River has created a beautiful sanctuary for a large number of waterfowl, including Egyptian Geese, Flamingos and assorted ducks. It has also become a wonderful playground for power boating, anglers and other watersport enthusiasts and provides the ideal spot for picnics. The surrounding grasslands and acacia veld are the playground of several large game, including rhino, wildebeest, hartebeest, springbok and blesbok. The dam has a prolific birdlife with over 200 species being recorded in the area. It was originally built to serve as a supply depot, transit camp and hospital for the British during the Zulu War and the Transvaal War of Independence. Today the the fort houses the Newcastle Cultural Museum which has a variety of Military displays with the focus being on the two Anglo-Boer Wars. It also features a period room, which illustrates the career of old time Newcastle resident Sir Rider Haggard, author of King Solomon's Mines.
